Scratch Advertising
Okay, I'm going to have to be a little blunt here but I'm not trying to be offensive. Just sharing my view in a different way than I usually do.
So I don't know how many times I've told this on the forums, but Scratch is not about fame. All of these advertisements are not going to help anyone gain views in the first place. Tbh I've never went on a website and purposefully clicked on an advertisement. Now you might be thinking, “Hey, some websites do clickbait and that's why you don't click there!” but helloooo, someone once advertised their profile on Roblox and as far as I know no one clicked on that. When people view a project, they get completely absorbed into that and forget any distractions.
But that has nothing to do with my first sentence. Scratch is not about fame. Scratch is a place where you can learn to code, collaborate with others, sometimes even help others to code. It's a platform where kids can join together and try to make awesome, intuitive games. The thought that you did hard work on something is so much stronger than the thought that your project is famous. The more you advertise, the more people think it's a normal distraction and not view it. Even if Scratch were about fame, why would anyone click on these ads if they're all over the place?
The biggest question is, why can't people make projects and share it with good friends on Scratch who don't mind you advertising and will review it? My latest project, Proli - I just created one topic with a fantastic motto and title and I got about ten comments in one night. It's all about creativity, not about the fame. How do you think griffpatch or Wazzo got famous? Have you ever seen these people advertise?
Even if this suggestion were implemented, there are some things unclarified here:
- What sort of projects would the ST accept? What if it was a blank project or just a project with Scratch Cat farting constantly? Would those be creative and good enough to earn an advertisement?
- You didn't mention at all that NFE projects will not appear in advertisements, and that should probably be the most important rule.
- Famous people would get unmotivated to do Scratch if people constantly clicked on advertisements - not cool, bro. We want some professionals on here.
I mean, sure, if projects needed to be good for ads, Scratchers would probably work harder on projects and stuff, but what's the point if ads are not so powerful these days? I'm not saying your suggestion is straight-up bad or anything, just don't think fame is so important on Scratch.
But hey, keep being motivated to improve Scratch,
~Nammy~
Guys, think about what I said - this suggestion in unneeded.

Support / No support, because:
-Scratch promises to be ad-free,
-people would not like if advertising on their project
-Scratch homepage would be a MESS
-scratch can only make so many advertisements, wouldn't be fair to those that don't get advertised.
ON THE OTHER HAND…
-This may reduce the amount of 1-fav 1-love projects.
-the people who work really hard on projects will get the attention they deserve.

Setting vote to no support. Some may not appreciate the advertising, and in other cases it would be ineffective. Also, because a lot of people would want to advertise, the ST managing this would probably get overwhelmed. Honestly, the front page is kind of one giant advertisement anyway. And weekly FPCs are able to “advertise” the projects of others.

Scratch Advertising
Hey. thanks for all the feedback on this. I think we do have a problem when some Scratchers spend a lot of time on a project and get very few views. That's not much of a motivation for them. However, I don't think advertising is the way to go for a lot of the reasons given in the posts above. How would we determine which projects get to be shown in the advertising area? How do we know that the projects are appropriate?
So, while we know that getting eyes on projects is a problem, I think we would like to go with a different solution, possibly something involving tags and feeds you can subscribe to. That way you would be more likely to see projects that were of interest to you. However, that may not be the way we end up going and it really isn't what we're talking about on this topic.
Keep thinking
