Ads on Projects

Scratch is such a huge platform with tons of people joining each day. My idea is an advertisement system which can allow scratchers to monetize off of projects that they make (something like 1 view = $0.01) or something similar to how youtube ads work. Views could be tracked to IP addresses or device ID's instead of accounts to avoid spamming. Ads could be approved by the scratch team and the approved ad could also be chosen by the user. The Scratch Team could actually monetize off of this by taking a portion of the monetization (also similair to youtube). This all seems like such a great idea and I don't see much downside to it. I made a project a while ago that now has over 50,000 views which could have made me $500 (without Scratch Tax) if you apply it to the 10 cent rule. If there have been previous discussions on this or anyone has a message from the scratch team, please message me and link me to it or tell me if you agree with my reasoning! Thanks for scratching!

A scratcher has made a website at https://scratchstats.com which shows you your daily, weekly, monthly, and yearly views. If I was using the $0.01 method I could make roughly $100 per year (without Scratch Team Tax) which would help a lot paying off student loans/car payments for many scratchers including myself. PLEASE IMPLEMENT ADs!!!

No support.

Scratch is meant for educational purposes, and is meant to teach kids to code. I feel this would go against that.

I agree with you 100%. I started scratch 6 years ago as a kid who knew nothing about coding and this opened a lot of doors which might have stayed closed without it. The ads could be things that educators could recommend such as approved educational websites similair to scratch, educational programs provided by other websites/companies, and many other advertisements to get the user to learn about things outside of scratch. Scratch and the community could benefit greatly off of this.

The Scratch Team seems to be doing fine without extra revenue from ads. If you want to monetise your project, embed it on your own website with ads.

You do not have to click on ads, but griffpatch would be a millionaire. Also where would a 9-year-old get his/her money?

I wish this could happen, but…no support. The Scratch Team might eventually lose all their money just because of paying millions of Scratchers a lot of money, and that would just completely destroy Scratch.

We've seen this suggestion before, but it has been rejected. To make a long explanation short: The problem with ads is that it's “for-profit” methodology, which is going to be extremely troublesome for us in legal matters being that Scratch is supposed to be non-profit.

aren't you meant to close the topic if this suggestion is rejected?

No support, scratch would be open to being sued for illegal use of I.P as now the site won't be for educational purposes.

Money doesn't come out of thin air, 1 view equates to a penny? Let's put that into perspective.
There's no ads placed on the Scratch website = 0 ad revenue for each view.
Scratchers like Griffpatch would earn thousands of dollars off of 1 project.
Youtubers don't even earn 1 penny off a view, approx 1 fifth of it. Imagine if you earned that kind of money now.

TL;DR: get the reasons straight up.
- this has been denied by ST
- ads would have to collect data / illegal for a kids website (-13) in the U.S and other countries
- unrealistic (1 cent a view)
- people don't come to scratch for ads
- removes educational value, scratch would have to sacrifice that.
- you can already publish these projects to sites that DO have ads
- scratch already makes money from donations from big corporations like amazon, google, lego, cartoon network

no support at all.
scratch is a site that is used in schools, and making money off of it is quite illegal.
