GUIDE TO THE SUGGESTIONS FORUM (PLEASE READ BEFORE MAKING A SUGGESTION)

Welcome to the Scratch Suggestions forum! This is a great way to propose ideas for Scratch, but there are some things you need to consider. This is a handy little guide for you! Please do not make suggestions here; you'll get more attention if you make your own topic.

Edit: It has been requested that I merge the information in this sticky with the one here. I have done that, but that sticky still has some very useful information that you might want to look at.

Before making a suggestion
1. Check
Is your suggestion rejected? https://scratch-mit-edu.ezproxyberklee.flo.org/discuss/topic/343602/
Is your suggestion a duplicate? Here is some help: https://scratch-mit-edu.ezproxyberklee.flo.org/discuss/topic/285904/
Make sure what you're suggesting doesn't already exist. If you're unsure, you can ask in the "Questions About Scratch" forum.

2. Think
Is it a useful suggestion? Will it benefit the Scratch Community?

Making a suggestion
1. Title
Title your suggestion clearly. Here are some example titles for someone who wants to suggest Redesigns for Scratch:

Person wrote:

new suggestion, scratch team plz look
This is not a good title, because it is not clear about what your suggestion is. It is also kind of begging the Scratch Team to use your suggestion, which could make you come across as greedy.

Person wrote:

My Suggestion
This is better, because it's not “begging” the Scratch Team to use your suggestion, but it's still not clear on your suggestion.

Person wrote:

This is a great title, because it is very clear on your suggestion.
2. Write
Write your suggestion, as clear as you can.
Think about the pros and cons of the suggestion - and you can list these in your post! It's great to be able to be critical of yourself.
3. Editing and formatting
Is your suggestion clear and concise?
Does it follow the Community Guidelines?
if you are creating a lengthy suggestion, then I would recommend formatting your post with indents, line skips, and other stuff to make it easier to read.

After making a suggestion
1. Listen
People will give you feedback on your suggestion, and tell you their opinion on whether it is useful, and a good thing to be added to Scratch.
2. Add
If someone suggests something to add to your suggestion, or something to make it better, consider it.
Is it something you like? Is it something that still fits in with your original suggestion?
If it is, then add it to your suggestion.
If you do not like their suggestion or agree with them, don't start an argument. It's okay to disagree! Have a respectful discussion about the suggestion. Discussion is great.

Giving feedback on other suggestions
1. Support (optional)
Indicate your support level for the suggestion. Do you support it? Do you semi support it? Do you not support it?
Make sure to clearly indicate how much you like the suggestion as well as explain why you like or dislike the suggestion.

Other general information
When on the Forums at all times, be respectful and follow the Community Guidelines. Take other's feedback and opinions, and be mindful that not everyone thinks the same thing.

There's your guide to the Suggestions forum!

I know there is more, but I decided to write one myself that I think could be simpler than other ones.

Make sure to give reasons why.
I'll be honest, I don't really like this part. We should try to stay away from this whole “support level” idea, because it just encourages people to say “no support” without any reasons, or “support because it's a good idea”, neither of which are constructive replies.

The “support level” system is nothing standard or required in the Suggestions forums by any means.

To add on, saying just support isn't encouraged, but I like to say “support”, “semi-support”, or “no support” to clearly indicate how much I like the suggestion as well as an explanation why I like or dislike the suggestion.

OP - I feel like you should format the headings and subheadings a little better, instead of using size and caps. I feel like I'm being yelled at when I read those titles. Maybe bold, underline, and enlarge the headings, and bold and italicize the subheadings.

For “Making a Suggestion”, add a part to “Edit” for formatting. For example if you are creating a lengthy suggestion, then I would recommend formatting your post with indents, line skips, and other stuff to make it easier to read.

It is a pretty good guide, it just needs some fixes.

My suggestion:

I think the Remix tree should still be available to look at for each project! Why?… because it was a fun way to look at people remix and it showed how much the project has grown. Do your agree? Quote below and tell me what you think! #Lets_Bring_The_Remix_Tree_Back! #Remix_Tree

This is a suggestion which should be listened to

Please make your own topic. It will get a lot more attention that way.

Also, reported being stickied!

To the OP: maybe you should add something along the lines of “Please do not make suggestions here” so no one else makes the same mistake.

That's true, but perhaps the ST could merge the info here with the existing stickies.

But would this really add on or just repeat it?

When I say “merge”, the information this guide contains that the existing stickied guides don't have will be included with them.

Hmmm… okay.

I like the support thing, as long as people give reasons why, which is what I have said.
