5/16/13 Updates to the Scratch 2.0 website!

Unshared are STILL showing up in What's Happening. Apparently the fix didn't work.

EDIT: Clearing cache didn't work. Therefore, it needs a new fix.

There is one thing you havn't fixed-it is impossible to upload sprites from your computer to a project. It is also impossible to upload picture files to a project to be used as a sprite. This is a BIG problem for me and is preventing me from carrying on with the projects I say I am making on my profile. Could you PLEASE fix this????!!!!

Uh oh - what browser / OS are you using? What happens when you try to make a new sprite with an image?
We haven't heard any other reports of this problem, so we need your help sorting it out!

Erm, the embed / <iframe> doesn't work for me - or my IT Teacher. The project is just blank. Any help?

Interesting - it's possible that your school security system is blocking something that the embed code needs to make the embeds work. Can you try embedding at home to confirm this? Please have the school IT admin contact us to sort this out. It's possible we can change the way embeds are working so as to make it work.

I have a bug to tell you. When you upload a Scratch 1.4 project update (a project with the same name as a project you already own so scratch replaces it), it registers itself as a new project instead of replacing. This is causing me some problems because I can't update my projects with 1.4.because they're just making new projects. sorry for bad wording, I'm rushing. Please fix this.

Yes - the old functionality of updating by sharing with the same name was really confusing for a lot of people, so we decided not to do it the same way in 2.0. However, you can always open the old version of the project in the 2.0 editor and click “File > Upload from computer” and select your new Scratch 1.4 project. It will then update the project and allow you to keep the same love its / comments / etc.

Do you know when the Block Plugin is going to be reimplemented? For example:

when flag clicked
show

should show up as code. It doesn't. Is it just for people with the scratcher rank?
I am sorry if this is posted in the wrong forum.

We hope to have this soon! Blob1018 (not sure about numbers!) made a new version of it, and was looking into making it work on the forums recently.

Dang. We really need to rewire the whole messaging system, and the messages page. We'll be meeting to talk about that early next week. Good news is: I think we can make it better.

Yeah, I hate to be the bearer of bad news. Hopefully the rewrite will work!

Awesomely huge number of update, Lightnin, very cool! I'm glad some of the CSS issues were fixed in particular!

If you're releasing this in announcements later, FYI you put “bucked” instead of “bucket” in cool trick #1

I never make mistakes.

(Thanks!)

5/16/13 Updates to the Scratch 2.0 website!

It's been a busy week since the launch, but we managed to get a lot of bug fixes done and to add a few new features (gradient fill!) Thanks to everyone who helped make the transition as smooth as possible, especially the Transition Team!

Project Editor
- The bitmap editor paint bucket now supports gradient fills
- buttons for solid fill or 3 types of gradient
- buttons reflect currently selected colors as preview of gradient (the rectangle and ellipse buttons now also show the current color)
- cool trick #1: when filling with the paint bucket, clicking multiple times in the same place fills a wider and wider range of colors (i.e. increases the color match tolerance).
- cool trick #2: you can fill with a gradient between transparent and a color
- gradient fill buttons currently hidden in SVG editor; Shane will add gradient support to the SVG editor when the website demands let up a bit.
- fixed a problem with downloading Scratch 1.4 projects uploaded since launch (as opposed to projects migrated from the old website).
- added a microphone volume slider to the sound editor. This was needed by Chromebooks because they don't have an OS control panel for changing the microphone level.
- Added a few sprites (including a couple breakfast items from Champika and a photo of a friend's puppy).
- Added four directions for each arrow (pink and black)
- Added bitmap vs. vector distinction
- Recentered Giga
- Made the elephant bigger and chose the first costume
- Renumbered the Mouse and Fish so they are named starting at Mouse1 and Fish1
- Removed the script from Cassy dance, so none of the sprites have scripts

Website
- Fixed issue with unshared projects showing up in “what's happening” when they're created
- Fixed issues with logging in on mobile phones - please test. Sign in should now give a modal on mobile phones and blue top nav bar should not break anymore.
- Removed some unused code in swf - ensure script and sprite counts still show up correctly on Projects
- Don't allow unshared/ censored projects to be accessed through embed link
- Added a call to purge cache (thanks Sayamindu) when changing profile image - should fix issue with profile pics not updating (please test)
- the share buttons for censored projects on the project page and mystuff should now reshare the project correctly and the censor warning should go away
- normal users should now get a 404 when they try to visit the profile page of a deleted account (they could see the profile before)
- Fixes to the view count throttling system
- Update translations!

Forums (Thanks, nxIII!)

- The CSS for the forums was causing some parts of the site (such as in the sign in bubble) to look different from their normal appearance when browsing the forums.
- The mobile version of the forums should work again.
- You should be able to bookmark <topic url>/unread/ to always go to the first unread post in the thread (the “(New Posts)” links have this URL).
- Tweaked the post editor script. Nothing major, but make sure quoting and the “Are you sure you want to leave this page?” dialog work as expected, and you can't double-post.
- Usernames in posts should now link to profiles instead of inserting usernames as BBCode.

Hello Lightnin! Really cool update! But how do you know if someone left a comment on your project?

You get an alert in your message board telling you who commented on what project. Same goes for love-its and favorites.

Woah, really? No one else has reported that. What browser are you using? Is “Javascript” enabled? If it's an old version of Internel Explorer, we might not be able to support it anymore - even supporting more recent versions of Internet Explorer has cost us a lot of time and resources

I use chrome and javascripit is enabled.

My only critique about the mobile forums is that there's no immediate way to return to the main site.
