there should be an online indicator
So basically from what I've read recently something like this is what everyone is going for.
(I added some of my own ideas on it)
(I added some of my own ideas on it)
• = Online
• = Busy/Idle
• = Offline/Invisible
Online - Self explanatory, you're online.
Busy - Working on a project.
Idle - Afk for ~15 minutes.
Offline - Self explanatory, you're offline.
Invisible - You can choose to look offline, when you're online. Overrides Online, Busy, and Idle.

That's a much better way to explain it! Definitely support for that; it's not that necessary but we sometimes wonder whether someone is online or nor. So basically from what I've read recently something like this is what everyone is going for.

Awesome idea! This would be good for when you're trying to comment on someone's profile and you need a quick answer. So basically from what I've read recently something like this is what everyone is going for.

Total support for that! It easily explains whether you're online or offline in a simple way. So basically from what I've read recently something like this is what everyone is going for.

Semi-support, leaning towards None (50-50), i can think of a way for this to be implimented (see the bottom of this post), but for that way, what about people who have limited internet? (like me)
the way i think this would work is:
Scratch sends a message to the user to verify they are online, if a response is given within 8 seconds, they are online, but if there is no response within 8 seconds, they are offline, and for the Busy/Idle parts, the user also sends current tasks (busy), but if a number of responses are the same, it goes to idle, and if the user chooses Invisible, scratch doesn't do any of that

People would just set it manually and if they don't have the tab open, then they would be offline. isOnline could do it, so I see no reason Scratch couldn't. I don't really feel like this would increase internet usage significantly. I understand your thinking here, but I feel like the whole sending a message idea might not work out. How would the Scratch team be able to send a message to all the users? When would they do this? How often would they send message? How would others be able to see if the user is online/offline/idle/busy if the message is only being sent to the Scratch Team? I feel like the whole idea is a bit hard to make it work out. People are so annoyed with messages already, I don't see how this would work.

Well, it's been about 5 years since this suggestion was put forth. That's a pretty long time!
We (the Scratch Team) have talked it over a few times - but have never managed to convince ourselves that it is a feature that would benefit Scratch as a creative platform. Making projects, sharing projects, collaborating on projects: these are all things that can happen at a fairly slow pace - whether your friends are logged in or not. When they do log in, they can leave you a comment. An online indicator wouldn't be much help in these areas, which we consider to be the core functionality of Scratch.
So we're going to reject this feature at this time. Thanks for sharing your ideas - keep thinking of ways to make Scratch better.
