Support .m4a Sound files
I was trying to upload a .m4a file on scratch to use as music but it couldn't decode it. Please add a support for .m4a Sound files, I like .m4a more than .mp3. Thanks for reading.

That's not really a valid reason for something so technical.
Could you explain why Scratch should support .m4a files? Is there a higher sound quality or is it more common? Please explain.

Well on some Youtube to mp3 converters I trust it has an option to convert it to .m4a. I tried it and it converted it so fast. It took about 1 second to convert the youtube video to .m4a. while when I convert it to .mp3 it takes over a minute.

It is common for apple users. It also has a better audio quality and was technically created to become a successor to mp3 file format. I have a large collection of audio files i cant use on scratch that i would like to use that are .m4a also. That's not really a valid reason for something so technical.

Have you tried uploading it into the 3.0 beta yet?

I've already found that there are some files that I cannot upload to 2.0, but I can upload them to 3.0.

Tell scratch to allow m4a files! It's hard to find unblocked youtube to mp3 converters that actually give mp3!

m4a Sound Files allow you to import files from much more common programs, including mobile programs used to compose music. Scratch should definitely support m4a files.

m4a files make it easier for apple/mobile users to use programs outside of scratch to create music. These programs usually have trouble exporting WAV and MP3 files, therefor it would be easier if scratch could read m4a files.

Why don't you use mp3 or wav or something more common straight from the beginning?
So how should scratch do it? These programs usually have trouble exporting WAV and MP3 files

M4A is common too. Why don't you use mp3 or wav or something more common straight from the beginning?

I believe .m4a is just a file extension for MPEG-4 files with audio-only, but they are the same type of file and can contain video.

Because, it's easier for me to use my iPod to record voice memo's than to use than sound editor on my school Chromebook (But that's the Chromebooks fault) and voice memo's are stored in my files app as a m4a file. Why don't you use mp3 or wav or something more common straight from the beginning?

Who cares To be fair I'm not sure if Scratch is legally allowed to use the Scratch font either, but that's irrelevantyoutube to mp3 convertersYou know these are not legal? Youtube to mp3 converters

Support? I guess? You can just use an online or offline converter, but I could see how this could be convenient. I also can't say that this wouldn't take anything to implement, so consider this an “I approve but I don't really care if this is added or not”.

The only issue I could see is that M4A is patented. but Scratch used MP3 when that was still patented.

100% support.
I used to use QuickTime to record, when I wanted better quality than what the Scratch recording could provide.
In order to convert, I had to load up iMovie (which took FOREVER, seeing as I had wayyyy too much stuff on there, but that is neither here nor there) and convert it that way.
Also, when I want to record myself playing the piano, or anything else that can't be done right by my computer, I have to use my phone, which only records m4a's, so I still need to convert those which is still annoying even though I have better software than iMovie now.
So, in summary, SUPPORT. Even if not a lot of people use QuickTime, I'm sure there are a lot of people who record stuff on Apple phones! Or am I just weird?
(Yes, I am aware this topic is from 2015.)
