Views are very important, as it means how many people have seen a project.
But how can we tell which views are actual views, or just spambots that troll you into thinking you're popular?
I think we need a message that can tell when someone views a project, and who views it.
That way, if spambots view your project, you can find them and report them to Scratch.
To keep the clutter away, there should be a 10 second count that ticks every second the project is up, so people who view your project in that 10 seconds will be grouped in. And the count should raise depending on how many views you get.
Who agrees?

Might be nice, but it could be an utter nightmare if your project got popular, as you would be getting loads of notifications. It could also be abused, such as,

Person A: Views project
Project creator: WHY DIDN'T YOU LOVE OR FAV????!!!!!!

No support, for the same reasons zafzaf mentioned.

No support.

As zafzaf stated, users could potentially start getting mad if they see that a user viewed their project but didn't love/favorite/comment.

Plus, if users view a project, they don't necessarily want the maker of the project to know “I like your project”. They just want to look at the project and will love/favorite/comment if they want to - they should be able to decide if they appear in someone's notification box.

And finally, imagine how much of a nightmare this could be for a lot of users. They may get a lot of notifications already, but some of them don't like being gone for about 7 minutes and coming back with a large stack of messages from stuff like loves/favorites/comments/remixes.. imagine adding views to that! I'd get probably at least 50% more notifications, and I imagine a lot of users would too. Even if it was optional to decide whether or not you want views to be included as notifications you get, I still don't support for the other few reasons.

Well that ended well.
As for zafzaf's claim, I think if your project gets over a thousand views, the view counter should stop working on that project. You do have a point on opinions though.
How are we meant to get rid of the spambots though?

You report the spambots. If the spambot is viewing to think you are famous, then wouldn't they love and fav too?

No support unfortunately. Nice ideas for New Scratchers but if this happened….griffpatch will be getting thousands of messages. Maybe it could be turned off in the account settings?

No support. And why would viewspam bots be all that bad?

I guess they would overload the Scratch servers causing the site to crash

Well….if this view count stores the amount of views every time a project is viewed, data will be sent to the Scratch servers. If there are loads of requests, the server could get overloaded……..not an IT expert, but I think that's how it works!

Well, nothing bad happened to griffpatch, so it is unlikely to happen.

I don't think that'd be too much of a problem, considering the large amounts of views sent per seconds, minute, etc anyways

I suppose….but it's still a large amount of notifications that would have to be sent out!!! Just imagine getting up each day to an extra 500 messages!

Not yet…but if griffpatch got all those notifications and couldn't turn them off! That is a LOT of messages.

No, not all the message thing, the views on project thing.

I'm interested to learn more about these “spambots” that you have experienced - please stop by my profile if you want to talk about them.

As for a message telling you who views a project, we're not going to be doing that because it could lead to a lot of traffic on the inbox of some Scratchers - and it could lead to drama about who is or isn't viewing projects. Thanks for your suggestion though - please keep thinking of ways to make Scratch better.

Scratch on!
