Important Update for Scratch 2.0 Offline Editor

speakvisually wrote:

A few days ago we received a number of messages about the Scratch offline editor not working properly. We immediately began troubleshooting the issue and discovered it was caused by an automatic update from Adobe.

Adobe introduced a new version of Adobe Air (13) which caused the Scratch offline editor to crash immediately upon startup.

The only solution is to download and reinstall the Scratch offline editor from the Scratch download page. When you open it, it may prompt you to update Adobe Air. If so, click Update.

Scratch On!

Important Update for Scratch 2.0 Offline Editor

Hello,
When I download the Scratch Offline Editor, it displays an error message, “The file is damaged.” I scoured my computer and deleted my older version, but it still doesn't work. My operating system is: Windows NT 6.3, Chrome 34.0.1847.116, Flash 13.0 (release 0)

Glad I saw this when I did. I'm going offline for a day and I need the offline version of Scratch 2 to work! Basically, this is how I programmed my brain to work (yes I program myself a lot ):

when green flag clicked
if <not connected to internet> then
broadcast[go offline v]
end
when I receive [go offline v]
go to [offline zone v]
repeat until <it's time to go home>
set (what i'm doing) to [programming]
if <it's time to go home> then
set (what i'm doing) to [going home]
end
else
keep programming
end

Important Update for Scratch 2.0 Offline Editor

I'm trying to give my system administrator some directions for installing the Scratch 2.0 Offline Editor in my computer lab at the middle school I teach at in Texas. Since August of 2010, my lab has been equipped with the previous Scratch 1.4 version offline editor but I'm wanting to have Scratch 2.0 available instead of the older version. Many of my students use the online editor with their personal accounts but many students are not allowed to create a profile so I'd like be able to solve this inconsistency by having Scratch 2.0 available offline for every student to use. With the previous version, my system admin was able to download the installation as an MSI (.msi) file and load that file on to our System Applications Catalog. Can this type of MSI file also be created and downloaded for the Scratch 2.0 offline editor? If not, is the only way to ensure installation of Scratch 2.0 through a successful install of Adobe AIR and then running the Scratch 2.0 installation through Adobe AIR? Are there any other methods of installation besides the one given on the download page? Do you or anyone else have any suggestions about how to go about accomplishing a bulk installation of 30+ computers in my lab? I look forward to any pertinent feedback you might be able to provide. Thank you for your time and efforts on this matter.

Respectfully,

CF
