Introduction

Hello, and welcome to The NEW Shop Directory! For years now, ever since @shiguy101 had the idea back during Scratch 1.4, the requests forum has had a convenient list of currently active shops in the form of The Shop Directory. Scratchers could come to the directory to find neatly categorized lists of shops, and bypass the tedious task of searching through shop names, hoping to find the right shop for them. In recent months, that service has been lacking, so I aim to provide it myself in the form of this, The NEW Shop Directory!

Alphabetical List of Shops (39)
An alphabetical list of all shops currently added to the directory. This only lists their names and links, if you want information about the shop, go to one of the category links below instead.

Advertisements (4)
Shops that offer advertisements are the place to go if you're looking to get yourself out there! From banners in signatures to features in Scratch Newspapers, these shops want to help get you more views!

Animations (3)
Animation shops will typically make you a costume animation (like walking, or jumping) or .gif to your specifications! If you're not good with making believable animations for your games and projects, definitely stop by one of these shops.

Backrounds (6)
Shops meant for backgrounds specialize in making drawings that take up the full 480x360 pixels of your project's screen. Good backgrounds can really change the feel of the project, so definitely take a look at these!

Banners/Signatures (10)
Ever see a neat image in someone's signature or shop and think, “Man, I wish I had one like that!” Chances are they got it from a banner shop. Banners are usually made quickly, and banner shop owners are open to making changes till it fits exactly like you want it!

BBCode (5)
BBCode is what makes all the fancy stuff on forum posts. Quote boxes, emoticons Big Text, crossed out text and most importantly, Scratchblocks. Tell these shops what you want your post to look like, and they'll make it happen!

Debugging (3)
If ever you have a problem with your scripts, you have 2 options. The first is to post a new topic on the Help With Scripts forum, and get mostly helpful (but potentially unthorough) responses from Scratchers like me, deck26, or asivi. (We do try our best. ) The second is to go to a debugging shop, where they'll take a look a your code, and try to fix every problem they find. Either way works!

Federation (2)
These are a combination of shops and collaborations, as they are shops banding together to try and streamline their services while helping each other get more visibility. Most commonly, they use a representative style of government to work together to create standards and rules to hold themselves accountable to. If you're a shop owner, you might consider joining one!

Ideas (4)
Idea shops are for those who've hit a creative slump, and need some extra inspiration to get a project out the door. These range from feature ideas to whole project concepts.

Intros/Outros (2)
Want to give your projects more of a personal flair? How about a custom Intro? These shops will help you come up with one and make it come to life!

Logos (14)
I got my profile picture logo from a Scratch shop, and so have many other Scratchers here on the forums. Definitely give one of these shops a try if you're trying to rebrand yourself!

Music (4)
Looking for a master composer to write some flowing scores for your games? Well ok, they may not be “masters,” but Scratch has had some pretty darn good musicians on here over the years. Check out these shops to give them a shot at making some great bgm for your projects!

Reviews (11)
Hands down, the best shop type out there. And I'm not just saying that because I own one…ok maybe I am. Shameless plug aside, review shops review the things you give them a link to, be it a project, forum post, user profile, or even other shops. Different review shops style their reviews differently, and some are more harsh/critical than others. It's always a good idea to get your projects reviewed, and it doesn't hurt to get more than one opinion either!

Scripts and Custom Blocks (11)
Script shops will make scripts on demand to do whatever you want them to. They're usually backpackable, meaning you can put the script/custom block in your backpack, then put it in any project you like! The more complicated the request, the longer it might take, so keep that in mind when ordering!

Sound Effects (2)
If you just need effects, but not full blown songs, a sound effects shop is the place to look. They're willing to dive into the deepest depths of google searching, sometimes even venturing to the second page, to find the perfect sound effects for you. You might think that's sarcastic, but I and my searching talents were unable to find some seemingly simple sounds quickly, so these shops really are a huge time saver. Definitely stop by if you want to add some extra polish!

Sprites (11)
These shops make full sprites for you, complete with all necessary costumes and animations. Some sprite shops will even script the sprites for you as well! Great for those with no artistic talent, like me. No really, my games need serious help.

Text Art (4)
These shops are all about making those neat little drawings you may have seen online, made completely with characters from your keyboard, and other ASCII characters! This category also includes those that specialize in enhancing text, via .gifs, LED signs, and more. If you have something in mind that you'd like to spam to literally everyone ahem, post appropriately online, give these shops a visit!

Voice Acting (1)
Some Scratchers have microphones. Some of these Scratchers with microphones are willing to voice act lines for your cutscenes and animations. If you want to really diversify your animations, ask these shops to help!

Writing (4)
Sum sratcherres right gud. Uh, I mean they're great at using words…to form sentences…oh I give up. Check out these shops if you want some good dialogue for your characters, or even just some proofreading and revision.

Epilogue

I hope you find this directory to be useful! The reason for the delay in getting a new Directory up is the fact that a couple of Scratchers, CStafford-14 and CCPlymJoe, intend on making a brand new site to automate the whole directory, and make sure it's always up to date. Unfortunately, it hasn't gotten done as fast as they had hoped, but a link will be provided here as soon as it's finished! If you'd like to help them with it, they are taking applications here!

The NEW Shop Directory is meant to be an improvement on previous directories. That's why I've decided to include federations, reviews, the help desk, and activity checks in this version. Want to know why? Then keep reading!

Federations
Ever since The Shop Federation (TSF) was founded, federations of shops have been a big part of helping newer shops get off the ground. They help advertise their member shops, give advice and training on how to format and run their shops, and even supply new members if necessary. They try to make sure that orders are getting done, and keep coming up with new ways to help each other out. I've included them in the directory so newer shops will have easy access to currently active federations and their constitutions, and so shoppers will know what to expect from shops that are marked as members of a federation.

Reviews
With the rising popularity of shop reviewers, it seemed like a wise move to include reviews shops have received as part of their entry in the directory. A review can be from any customer as well as the official reviewers, so long as the review is score based (not just “This shop is good”). Review scores are colored for convenience. Green is for scores 7-10, Orange for 4-6, and Red for 0-3. Click on a specific review score to view that review in its entirety.

The Help Desk
The Help Desk is a place for shops and shoppers alike to ask for assistance. For instance, if a shop has left your order uncompleted, you can ask for help finding someone else to complete it. It's also a place where I'll keep advice for finding a shop, starting a shop, and more.

Activity Checks
I will be periodically checking for new shops, and rechecking old ones at least once a week for activity. If a shop has no activity from it's members for 2 weeks straight, or if orders have been made and taken, but none completed in the last week, it will be marked inactive on the directory. I decided this was necessary, as there have been many times when I tried to use a shop in the directory, only to realize they had been inactive for months. If your shop doesn't get automatically added in activity check, then it's likely do to a seeming lack of commitment on your part. If your shop is lacking in formatting, and/or you have incomplete orders lying around with no orders already done, you will likely be passed over in a check.

The Original Shop Directory
ErnieParke created the Shop Directory after shiguy101, who originally came up with the idea, decided to postpone creating it till 2.0 was released. It was started on November 17, 2012, and was updated till its last post on May 2, 2013. When the topic was closed along with the rest of the 1.4 forums, it had a total of 12 shops registered. The Shop Directory
After 2.0 came out and the 1.4 forums were archived, chocolatepenguin recreated the Shop Directory after asking ErnieParke if it was ok. It was started on June 6, 2013, and was updated till June 7, 2014. Shops continued to try apply till the thread's last post as a sticky on May 6, 2015. Before it was no longer being updated, it also ended with a total of 12 shops registered. You can find the old thread here.

The Shop Directory 2.0
After seeing the current directory had gone without an update for months, purplebook163 saw the need for a new thread, and founded the second ever Shop Directory, along with partner makethebrainhappy. It was started on May 10, 2015, and continued to be updated till its last stickied post on April 12, 2016. At its final count, it had an estimated 40-50 shops registered. An exact count was not kept, and there are many duplicate entries, making it hard to get an exact number. You can find the old thread here.

The Shop Directory 3.0
When purplebook163 went inactive, co-owner makethebrainhappy started a new thread to make the 4th iteration of the directory on Scratch. It was started on April 13, 2016, and continued to be updated until its last day, January 16, 2017. Sadly, an official count was not kept, but it's estimated that there were well over 50 shops by its end. You can find the old thread here.

The Shop Directory 4.0
The ownership of this directory was actually contested, as banana439monkey tried to create it while makethebrainhappy was still active, but only updating the 3.0 directory once a month. The attempted directory is here. Paddle2See responded to the sticky request, and decided that the 3.0 directory was still active enough to remain stickied. While banana contested this decision, the official 4.0 directory did not come to be until Sigton and Monkey_Legend requested ownership from makethebrainhappy months later. It was started January 16, 2017, and continued to be maintained until September 4, 2017, though it remained the active directory until September 26, 2017. Its shop count is also estimated above 50. You can find the old thread here.

The Shopping Plaza (Directory 5.0)
After Sigton announced that they were inactive on their profile, Whitetiger456 and _Lillion_ created a new thread, and changed the name to The Shopping Plaza. It was started September 26, 2017, and continued operation till December 15, 2017, when _Lillion_ decided not to do it anymore. The topic closed down on December 21, 2017, with a shop count estimated higher than all previous iterations of the directory. You can find the old topic here.

The Shopping Plaza 2.0 (Directory 6.0)
rainpelt28 created the next thread directly after the last one closed, on December 21, 2017. It was only able to continue till February 6, 2018, before rainpelt28 decided to shut it down, with an estimated shop count of around 20. You can find the old thread here.

The Shopping Plaza 3.0 (Directory 7.0)
Run by CStafford-14, CCPlymJoe, and poppybunny, this was the first attempt at an innovation to something other than design in the directory since its creation. The three attempted to automate the Directory via PHP and an external site while still maintaining a Scratch forum version, but as of this writing, they have been unsuccessful. poppybunny has since left the project, but if you would like to help out, they are taking applications here. It was started February 10, 2018, and continued operation till March 27, 2018. Its final shop count was 4, the lowest in Directory history, and the reason I've created this thread. The NEW Shop Directory! (Directory 8.0)
Run by sonicfan12p, this thread was created as a response to the lack of shops in the current sticky, and as an attempt to improve the quality of information provided to viewers. It was started March 21, 2018, and has continued operation till the present day. It's current shop count is 33 and growing.

The USS was (as far as I can tell) the second federation of its kind to appear in the Requests forum. It uses a representative style of law making to impose certain rules on its members, to ensure that they meet the USS standards of shop quality. You can find their Constitution here.
