I totally agree. I also hope that you can change the thumbnail when ever you want.

Maybe instead of uploading a thumbnail from your computer, it could be something like where you check off a box in the options on a sprite to say “Save as Thumbnail”, so the thumbnail would still be a sprite.

Something similar was also suggested above:

How about add ‘capture project thumbnail’ to the menu when right clicking on the stage in the editor? Then it would save a thumbnail of the stage that is not changed until the project is opened again in the editor (or ‘capture project thumbnail’ is selected again).

Support. This would be very useful

Support, but the feature should be in the editor, and use Scratch's paint editor instead of uploading from the computer (but you can import if you want to upload it)

That would be nice.

What about for your profile picture you can draw it on the scratch project editor?

If you're asking about setting a drawing on the project editor as your profile picture, that is possible. You can either download a sprite design onto your computer (which I'm sure is possible with the current editor) or take a screenshot, then upload it onto the site as normal.

This will be so useful but I bit consume about the animated Thumbnails. Some are flashy which isn't good for some people but other than that, I will support.

(Do not complain about necroposting. Necroposting is okay is the necropost adds anything good to the topic and no final decision was made.)

I tried to make a thumbnail become a certain picture by showing it and hiding the rest of the stuff, and then saving, but sometimes the thumbnail appears as contents in a project, acting like there is no thumbnail, instead showing my work. It happened a few times, so I would really appreciate it we could have custom thumbnails.

You should be able to create or make (just like you create a backdrop) a thumbnail for your project and actually have power over it.

It would be good because sometimes it is hard to make the thumbnail what you actually want.

You have to do all this hiding and showing and saving and it would be easier if below the backdrop box on See Inside, there was a ‘Thumbnail’ box and you could customise it as you like with the bitmap and vector and import and add and all that stuff with the backdrop.

I will just not have the code and sound bit, just the picture bit. I hope this is noticed.

BENEFITS
  • Easier to make thumbnail
  • Saves a lot of time
  • Projects made by New Scratchers that don't know how to currently make a thumbnail will be more appealing

NON-BENEFITS
  • I can't think of any

That was really hard to read…

No support. It's easy to code.

Maybe not for New Scratchers. And it is really hard to do it anyway if you have a cluttered up project.

You would have to go to each and every sprite clicking hide and maybe change the script for it to say show after green flag because you didn't need that before because they used to be on screen the whole time etc..

If it's a sprite then all you would have to do is move the thumbnail to the front simple as that.

I don't think it's all that difficult and takes all that time. No support.

No support. There are easy work-around such as setting the ghost effect to 100, then you don’t even need to bother with anything. It’s not that hard to do.

1. Create a new sprite
2. Draw Thumb on it
3. add this complex script:
when green flag clicked
hide

For new scratchers or less advanced scratchers who just want an easy way around, maybe it is.
