"Scratch Around the World" forum sections should also have sub-forums, and more language forums.
It's unfair for people speaking other languages that their forums are unsorted, there should be an announcements sub-forum, where Scratch announcements news is there, but in the language of the forum, and the rest of the forums (except for the Scratch Around the World forum sections, because the forums would be inside of each other
). Of course the names of the forums and the announcements would be in the language.
There should also be more language forums because the “Other Languages” forum is a bit of a mess.
There would be a sub-forum called “General Discussion” (in the language of the forum), exclusive to the language forums if this was added, for topics made before the change. You would not be able to make a topic in there, only reply to topics. Over time, Scratch Team members would start to move topics from there into the other sub-forums, until there are no longer any left, and General Discussion is no longer needed and is shut down.
Other Languages would stay the same, but there would be more language forums added until Other Langauges was no longer needed and then deleted. Of course, this would have to be a separate page otherwise Discuss would be too long.
I don't speak anything other than English, but this should be added for the people who do.

Support! Scratch is supposed to be a community for everyone and it doesn't make sense that the non-english forum is so unorganized!

Support. Otherwise, we end up with situations such as the one in the suggestions board. It's not even that hard to make new boards for different languages.

Yeah, I think most forum software have an option to put sub forums inside of sub forums, so this would work. Support. Otherwise, we end up with situations such as the one in the suggestions board. It's not even that hard to make new boards for different languages.

It takes a long time for translators to translate new messages, and then have the new messages reviewed and finally published onto the site. By the time an announcement was translated into all the languages Scratch currently supports, the next one would probably have come out already.
However, I do occasionally wonder why English has all these subforums and the other languages don't, or vice versa.
I don't support requiring announcements to be translated before they are published. I think that people who care about the announcements will translate them for everyone else in their language. However, I do support the idea of making languages more uniform - i.e. instead of biasing towards English so much, treat all languages equally, English simply being the default language when no other languages are available.
All of that does have one problem, though - the forum moderators can't speak all languages. Lifay can speak German and English, Paddle, Harakou, and cheddargirl can only speak English (afaik). How would they moderate an entire forum identical in size and scale to the English forum, which already causes enough trouble, in a different language?
So actually, in general, no support - though I like the idea of equal treatment of all languages.

There's actually no need for that, you could instead have a separate copy of the forum software running for every language - so like the English forum would be scratch.mit.edu/discuss/en/… while the Chinese forum would be scratch.mit.edu/discuss/zh(-TW/-CN/-HK/…)/…Yeah, I think most forum software have an option to put sub forums inside of sub forums, so this would work. Hmm, yeah. I've seen the other language forums, and although I don't speak other languages, I can agree that it must be inconvenient to have your Spanish Art Shop right next to the suggestion to remove emojis.
What about “Other Languages” though? Can you specify any others that should be required?
also a bit offtopic but it's nice to see that you've kept your 7 grand darwin prof pic after all this time

I use the Portuguese forum and I support this! It would be really convenient for all of us. Although I don't think announcements should be translated, because they would probably take a long time to translate.

Thank you! I do agree on the announcements. There would have to be some sort of community contribution system. I use the Portuguese forum and I support this! It would be really convenient for all of us. Although I don't think announcements should be translated, because they would probably take a long time to translate.
