But think about science. Think about math. Do they fit in inside one of the forums?

The answer is no. (Sorry for being a little bit dramatic )

But how many people would use this very specific forum?

Plus you can “make and create” and “read and play” with these subjects

1. A lot of people. There is a large math community here, and a lot of people in scratch like science and knowledge.
2. Science and math are topics which are much wider than make and create or read and play.

There could be a few quite a few people. But the average age of Scratchers is not one where lots of people will have a huge interest in it yet where they need a whole forum section for it. It would be a forum lacking a lot of posts compared to others. Most of what could be said could be done in one or a few forum posts, or in studios.

But I was a part of a science studio, and I can say it's really not enough. Also, what if I only want to talk about a specific science topic? No studio will have enough people to have a long discussion about that topic. The forums have enough people.

But will there be the hundreds or thousands of topics that most other forums have? How many people in Scratch have enough scientific knowledge to answer advanced questions? You could ask them on a science post. It's also not a priority subject for scratch. If you were to add this why not forums for other things like art and music? At the point it's not a scratch forum.

If you expand what you said, it really means that we should get rid of the “intrests beyond scratch” section entirely. Also, talking about music and art in the “making” or in the “reading” forums is reasonable. With science and math, you know they belong to this section, but they don't belong to one of the two forums. That's whey we need one only for them.

But the current sections allow for a range of topics not just a few. If the problem is then not seeming to include STEM topics is your suggestion to rename the current forums something more inclusive?

This can happen, but I prefer to have a seprate section for STEM.

Why are users not supporting because “there's things I'm reading and playing and things I'm making and creating”

Discussing Math and Science has nothing to do with discussing things you make or things you read/play.

Is this crazy?

I had issues posting this due to connections and such, so pardon me if this is reposted:

Not really a big fan of that type of reorganization, as “Things I'm Studying” is bleedingly close to being seen as “Homework Help Forum Section”.
I didn't see it as that way, but having a STEM topic can be somewhat similar to that.

cheddargirl wrote:

The “Interests Beyond Scratch” forum, if reorganized and/or rewritten, should make it clear that the subject is something you're interested in.
It could be just like how the two forums are, where users create topics centered around something and that topic's open to debate. The two different forums at the moment diversify traffic, but combining the traffic can eliminate potential confusion and increase traffic. If it gets insanely crowded, then it can be reverted back to how it is today.

There's plenty of cross-forum topics that end up being put in one.

As with an individual topic for math/school related subjects, perhaps the Interests Beyond Scratch forum folder/collection can be like this:

Interests Beyond Scratch
Things I'm Doing For Fun (Things I'm Making and Creating + Things I Am Reading and Playing)
Things I'm Studying (This Suggestion)

Yeah. We’re kinda going off-topic here.
That wasn't going offtopic…

It was a relevant suggestion to implement this and modify another forum, but it got disapproval from a moderator. It's still open to debate - but it's likely to not be supported.

(Having a turned down solution doesn't mean it's irrelevant.)

They were going off-topic. The subject is adding Science and Maths forum, and that’s completely different. Also, Cheddargirl turned the suggestion down.

I stated that the “Things I'm Studying” forum I'm suggesting is THIS suggestion renamed, which makes it on-topic. When cheddargirl disliked the suggestion, it doesn't make it off-topic.

In the quotes above, I have capitalized and colored text that states this in blue (for how this is a rename) and orange (where I say that cheddargirl's disapproval doesn't change it.)

With it being capitalized, it's not intended in a rude way, instead to make it easier to notice.

Not that much, since it's more like discovering and learning.
