Is there a way to have bigger sprites? And I mean really big, like >1000 pixels.

I haven't actually tried this with Scratch alone yet, but there's a 1.4 mod called Panther that doesn't care about sizes. I think it can export projects with Scratch only block as .sb, which 2.0 can then open to get the large sizes.
