Great idea! I also think the Followers and Following should be removed as I feel those sections encourage competition between scratchers.
Honestly, I think the Followers and Following do more good than bad.

YES LET US REMOVE FOLLOWING, LIKES, AND COMMENTING BECAUSE “EQUALITY”

/sarcasm

No support, I think it needs to be established around here that equality isn't a lack of competition or “everyone is the same”, it's “everyone has the same opportunities”. Heck, in my opinion, competition is good, without it, there's no motivation.

Eh, “watch” is a little creepy. Maybe something like “update me”.

Rename the "Follow" Button

I feel like the follow button should be renamed. First of all, it just makes people think that followers = fame. That's not the case, followers only mean that people want to be updated when the user releases a new project (I mean, that's what I use it for at least).

A “Keep me updated” button in place of the Follow button would likely be a better idea and discourage the concept of followers = fame, hopefully lessen spam by asking others to “follow”, and F4F spam as well. Thanks for reading, and please provide constructive posts, not just no support/support.
Well first, followers does equal fame. What famous Scratcher does not have a large amount of followers? (answer: none) I disagree when you say the button (aka followers) makes people think that followers = fame. Famous Scratchers (the existence of) make Scratchers think followers = fame. The follow button in particular makes Scratchers think the only way to become ‘famous’ is by gaining a lot of followers. Many seem to think that popular Scratchers became popular by having lots of followers. The truth is, having lots of followers is a *result* of hacing good projects.

Anyway, not every Scratcher is obsessed with followers (omg really). It's likely to me that the older Scratchers (as in account age) are less obsessed with followers because until early 2013 (somewhere around then) they were called ‘friends.’

I have 0 support for this. I agree that hitting the follow button basically means “keep me updated,” but I think more so in regards to following discussions and studios. When I follow a person, it's sometimes a bit more nuanced. It might be for encouragement, or to show my association with that Scratcher. Anyway, I like the sense of having earned my followers's respect/attention.

Lastly, what would the other things such as “following” and “followers” get renamed as? Would we still be able to see either of those? I'd hope so. I use them to find new Scratchers (as in a Scratcher I haven't met before, not like the status New Scratcher).

Society has changed the meaning of “follow” to be a currency-like quantity however

How are we going to list people who are interested in somebody's art?

Are we just going to rename followers “Keep me updated-ers?” or something?

How about we make following/followers private? Then there is no way to brag about followers, as you can't know what number you are.

This is unfair, as I have said before, how will you find people who have the same interests as you?

Let's say you like dogs, and follow somebody who makes things specifically about dogs.

In the follower section, you can see more people who are probably interested in dogs.

With your logic, why not remove the “love it” or “favorite” symbol on Scratch as people can brag about that too? Even if the followers section was private, people can still state how many they have in their WIWO or About me.

Good projects are based on a person's opinion. Most famous people's profiles are full of projects with just their cat OCs with no storyline. If you look at a famous Scratcher's projects with that in mind, you might call it “unoriginal”. Some people look at the animation, and say it's “good” just because of their skills. But what about the person's creativity in mind? To me, creativity is what counts, and that's why I don't like many famous people on Scratch.

But yeah, many people have a different opinion than me saying that it's the talent that counts, not that the MAP project they made is just a bunch of flashes of the Scratcher's cat OC looking up at the sky and jumping, or a Stickman animation was created with an unfunny vine playing in the background.

And I agree with you on no support, by the way

Oh gosh cat OCs… not only that but, they have very little scripting. I had in mind someone like @mikeono102 or @griffpatch (duh) who, both have a lot of good projects shared. I agree with you that it's the creativity that counts… for me I mean creativity in scripting, not necessarily storyline or concept. I'd personally be fine if two projects were the same but had different scripting (when possible). There are famous Scratchers who are unique, and there are famous Scratchers who are famous only because the majority likes the same stuff they do. The latter just happened to get lucky, or got followers not by having amazing projects.

I think it depends on the project, but generally yes. You could theoretically have the creativity for something, or the idea in mind, but unable to replicate it perfectly in Scratch. (ugh that happened to me for a while)

I the whole idea is way to PC

Oh, okay. Griffpatch has a ton of followers because he takes Scratch as what it really was supposed to be- a programming language. He makes all of these amazing projects (like a simulated version of Terraria on Scratch in multiplayer) while being good at it. Sure, I do make OCs too and storyline and concept, but not cat OCs, they are very cliche on Scratch, and every generic cat OC on here seems to have the same personality.

I honestly really agree with you.
