True. +1While we're +1ing things, I +1 this. Disregarding the payed extras idea, does anyone else think that multiple editors isn't the way to go anyway? What benefit is there? It would be a ton of extra work and a maintainability nightmare.
Maintaining multiple projects is very painful. The only reason you would do that is to allow multiple devices to run it and the Scratch Team said they'll be moving to HTML5 eventually which should allow all common devices (mobile, laptop, desktop, maybe even TVs) to run it.

Scratch is an meant to be educational, not commercial. For example, check out Story Bird. I was pretty annoyed by the features we should pay, which means Story Bird is commercial. Because we should pay, I was really annoyed and quit StoryBird. If I should pay Scratch, trust me, I WOULD QUIT NOW. If Scratch turns to be commercial, it would rob the fun out of Scratch. And in my opinion, Scratch's quality will drop, if they take moneys. T_T

I don't think that Scratch should start charging – it would be a really bad idea. BUT:
What I see on this thread is a little confusing. Should we assume that good things have to be free, and if you have to pay for things they are inherently bad? That's what a few people on here seem to be saying. Should programmers and developers work long hours to build something and not get paid for it?
Think about this – if the folks working on the Scratch engine were getting paid to do it, and not having to work other jobs to be able to do things like eat and buy things like clothing and gasoline, maybe we'd have cloud lists by now. Maybe that HTML5 player would be released. Maybe we'd have something here that would rival Snap!
Scratch is educational, and the people involved are doing it altruistically. That's a good thing. That's an important thing, and it shouldn't change. But we also shouldn't assume that people who are doing something and expecting to get paid for it are somehow evil or dishonest.

I really don't support Live Help Chat either. It… could have some moderations problems.

You can't have the Scratchteam make money out of any person joining, any project made, anything! You can't make Scratch a commercial website! Grow up!

What did you mean… Nice try. Don't worry, it's blocked here
I heard somewhere that some US Society donate Scratch, or power Scratch, whatever that is.They are. It's their job (I think) (snip)

I like these ideas, but new users will be very confused over the differences between a Java, Flash, and HTML editor.
