Scratch Sound Editor

My idea is that Scratch should have a much better sound editor, well more like a sound creator as at the momment you can only add a handful of effects to sounds and all sounds have to be from somewhere already, as they can not be created.

There should be a way to create sound files and to create music just like you can create art and animations. You would be able to play the sounds of instruments, recordings and you would be able to add effects to each aspect such as changing the pitch. But it doesn't even have to be that complex, maybe it could have very basic tools and you would only be able to make basic sounds and muic with it?

The closest thing we have to this is the sound blocks but there is not that many options and you can not export the sound as a file, maybe this could be built on to create sound files?

I know a lot of you will say that Scratch is for programing and while that may be true it is also for things like art and animations

So why can't music be a option for scratchers to express themselves as well? Not to mention this would teach lots of people how music is created and the different aspects of it. It would also improve the quality of sounds used in projects as sound and music is a important part of game development, and people would get to experience everything that is involved in creating a game from scratch. This would also make it easier for scratchers to get sounds and music to use if they don't want to use the built in sounds and can't get them online.

I imagine something that is around the complexity of the cosumes editor with a few advanced options. This would be something great to see added to scratch 3.0 as something new and exciting.

I would love to hear peoples opinions and what tools they think would be in it.

I'd support this- it would be nice to have a basic-level sound editor/creator. I like the art editors because they're so simple, I think a sound designer in the same fashion would be great.
Trying to explain how the art editors really aren't a bunny trail… it made sense to me.

Thanks.

What features would it need to have?

Support I like this idea. I think that adding some more basic sound editing features (like speed and pitch) would be very convenient. Sure, you can download sound-editing software, but you can't really install anything on school / restricted computers, so…

yeah a lot of people always say use other software but sometimes they can't or don't know what to do because it's too complex but this would be a easy and safe way to experiment and learn about sounds.

No support. The sound blocks are good enough. Just use a program for making music or sounds.

Yeah not everyone has a easy to use safe environment to edit sound and you can not export sound blocks plus they need more tools for example changing the pitch also this would only improve scratch and allow people to learn more.

So there should also not be a graphics editor? Scratch is also not just a programming language either it is it between it is a learning environment that lets people be creative and express themselves.

Then how would users be able to do sprites that are not in the sprite library or the can't find? It could be really hard to make unique projects without it. It's also simple enough, so it's fine. You can make music without blocks. Use sounds from the Sound Library and put them together to make music.

Without this how would you create sounds not from the Sprite library? Also this would be simple as well
Also you have only gave about one counter.
