Why Scratch? A New Scratcher's Benefits Guide

My opinions:

Haiming wrote:

It's Easy
Scratch is really easy to become good at. Many Scratchers that have been on only for 3 or 4 months have already gotten over 300 followers. This seems like an insult to me because I only have 200 something followers, but that's because I was highly inactive for the past year….Anyway, more and more Scratchers without too much experience have created excellent projects and have gotten highly famous. Due to suggestions, the examples have been taken out.

Hmm… that's not true. Most scratchers have 30-50 followers in 3-4 months. You're just talking about especially famous scratchers with great graphic design. More and more scratchers without too much experience? That's because they gain expirience.

It's Diverse
If you look at the Scratch statistics, most members are not adults! There are some 60 year olds, but they're probably Paddle2See or some Scratch team member (I'm just kidding! I know you aren't that old. ). So don't feel out of place. There are plenty just like you.

You forgot a lot of things. People come from different ethnecitys, different genders, and different ages, all together, to program and have fun! The last two sentences are very correct, but this IS a very diverse society, yet a very same society, as we all share passion for programming. Why are we so diverse? There is no age requirement, it is very age-friendly, built for all ages, unlike other websites, and is not boring! It also supports languages and is awesome, so there we go!

It's Safe
I've been on Scratch for 3 years and haven't received a virus yet. Okay….I'm kidding. Scratch doesn't get you viruses. That's beside the point. Scratch is one of the safest places for kids to go. There are plenty of moderators and Scratchers that help report mean things and get rid of it quickly. TheHockeyist is a Scratcher who's life's duty is to keep the website safe (well…it's not his life's duty, but he does it excellently).

Of course, nothing is 100% safe, but as long as you know basic internet safety rules, you should enjoy your expirience.

It's Smart
Scratch is an excellent foundation for starting more difficult programming languages. Take 08jact for example. He was someone who many looked up to around 3 years ago when I first joined. He moved on to Flash programming on NewGrounds, and probably is very successful. If you want to become a programmer, Scratch is a great place to start.

No argument here. You probally won't end up like 08jackt and his amazing Syn Inc, but it does have a great concept and is a lot better than other confuzing “starter” websites for programming, like roblox, geared toward teenagers. It is very smart.

It's Friendly
The Scratch team is friendly as long as you don't annoy them (kidding again. They are always friendly). You can ask them for help, or ask a fellow Scratcher for help and we'll be glad to make your time on Scratch a success. There are very few arrogant people on the site, so ask away!

Many people ARE friendly, but let's not forget- there will always be cyberbullies, spammers, trollers, etc.! They get banned easily though, but they are STILL out there! There are very few arrogant people… I'm not very sure about that. Oh well, you get the point, who cares because 85% of the arrogant people on this site are more friendly than arrogant anyways xD.

It's FUN
Scratch is extremely fun. You can start a high end thread on the forums, or create a gorgeous game. You can create a funny animation, and see what others think of it! There's endless things to do on Scratch, and everyone here will support you.

Very fun, unless you get addicted, but yeah.

Why Scratch? A New Scratcher's Benefits Guide

Thank you for this intro!
I have been wondering if programming is for me and a friend suggested Scratch as I have no programming experience!
I am quite intimidated, however there are so many helpful things up here to get started on the simplest of projects.
Many thanks, Misty Pole Dancer

Why Scratch? A New Scratcher's Benefits Guide

I don't want to just say “Hi” to each one of you New Scratchers, so I made this topic. There are soooo many programming languages out there, but why would you want to pick Scratch?

Here are a few reasons:

I think this could be improved if you got rid of some of the jokes, (“just kiddings”). Other then that, it is a really useful guide!

Ive been on for 3 months and I have 30 follows. I'm active every day.

To be come famous, you need to draw furries. This website is run by furries - all the famous people are furries. Furry stuff is front paged all the time, and there's nothing wrong with being a furry, but it makes it too easy to gain fame.

If you do what you want, no one notices you.
Only the furry rulers have the power to make you famous.

NOT TRUE. When I was 3 or 4 months old (on scratch, of course) I only had 2 or 3 followers - and back then I shared about 2 projects a day!
