When you convert what you did in vector to bitmap, why can't you convert that back to vector?

Well, vector is actual shapes, where as bitmap is just colors. In the computer, vector looks like “draw line from 0,0 to 50, 50”. But bitmap looks like “White White White Red White White White White Red.” To do vector to bitmap, you just draw it, but for vice versa, you have to use complicated, imprecise algorithms (hence the quality loss)

I think that would mess up the costume and going from Vector to Bitmap and editing would mess up the Vector before.
