For once read ALL of the stickies -_-Actually Scratch is social media (hint hint discussion forums, sharing projects, comments, loves, follows, remixing, etc.) because the social aspect of Scratch apparently helps you learn stuff. Anyways it kinda does work… No support. I know you said not to play the “scratch isn't social media” card, but, it's true? Scratch is not facebook, and just because facebook has it, doesn't mean Scratch should have it, because for 1, scratch isn't facebook(like I said before), and 2, facebook has that because it's more about social media. Scratch is about CODING. And also, this isn't necesssary. You can customize your profile enough already.
No support. This had no REAL positive effect other than flashiness. I honestly couldn't care less if I had a pink or white background. In my opinion it's a waste of time. The Scratch Team should work more on things that actually have benefit other than your own self appeal.

And I DO read all of the stickies, two or three times. Just sayin'.

Yeah I love it! Profile backgrounds would be a new and interesting way to design your profile.
Why do people say “It's not strictly necessary!” though? I mean, the “Featured Project” box isn't necessary either. Neither is profile commenting (we didn't have that in 1.4), or love-its, or studios, or the Scratch Forums, or “move 10 steps”, but those are useful and fun things so we keep them around.

Thankyou! Finally, someone gets it! If this were suggested in 1.4, what would they say, I wonder… Yeah I love it! Profile backgrounds would be a new and interesting way to design your profile.

^ I agree with this. Maybe there could also be some images of Scratch mascots (ex. Scratch Cat, Tera, Nano, etc)? I support, but make it choose from some colors or some scratch approved images (patterns)

(Don't play the “Scratch isn't social media” card here, guys. That's another story. And as DaSpudLord said, Scratch is, by all definitions, social media.)Don't you want this? Tell me down below and I'll try to count the Supports, Semi-Supports, and No Supports. On my old acc I was on the old scratch. There was somewhat of a commenting system. I think that most of us have Facebook, or at least some. If so, don't you just love customizing your own cover for your profile? This is what I want to do. I just think that we should have a picture that you choose that's the background of your profile picture, Featured project, About Me, What I'm Working On, and activity log. I can think of a few things that I would do if this was added. I could add my OC standing, resting her arm on the Featured box, and another picking it's teeth with a toothpick leaning against the About Me and What I'm Working On boxes. Also, keep in mind that the world's biggest social networking website has this, so why can't Scratch have this?
Supports: 8
Semi-Supports: 1
No Supports: 3
Things that I've seen for reasoning:
1: Even though this may just be a distracting, unnecessary picture, think of what purpose it serves - representing yourself and what you do on your profile. Ex.: You do lots of Warrior Cats projects, so you'd make a Warrior Cats profile Cover.
2: Can you imagine the shops' production if this got added? How could they keep up with it? The business would be booming for a VERY long time, and it would end up being like the banners and profile pictures we see now.
3: You cannot say that this is not needed and too flashy, because what are banners? What do they have to do with coding?
4: What are profile pictures, banners, ect. for? To represent and express yourself. What better to do that than on your home page, where people go to learn more about you?
5: You can't say that this is again, not needed, because do we need the featured box? Obviously not, we didn't have it in 1.4. Nor did we have profile commenting, studios, ect, ect, ect.

I am semi-supporting this. One reason why I would support this is because on other sites, such as QuizUp, which the main purpose is for quizzes, but in reality, it's pretty much social media, but just social media with quizzes. Quizup has backgrounds, and profile icons, so why shouldn't Scratch have them? Scratch is pretty much like QuizUp, except that it's for coding, not quizzes, but put that aside, and it's pretty much the same thing.
Well, on the other side, I was thinking that it could be too distracting and flashy, much like other users do. Maybe the background could be faded a little, so there won't be any neon colors?

I agree, however, there are some problems that need to be worked out before something like this could be implemented.
There's really no accounting for taste. Someone could use an inappropriate image, but that could be prevented in the same way we prevent other inappropriate images, by reporting them. What I'm more worried about is neon colors, horrendously ugly pictures, pixelation beyond belief, and memes. Oh god the memes. There'd be thousands of them, rage comics and trumpet playing skeletons as far as the eye can see. I can deal with a small profile pic, those I can mostly tune out, but I really don't want to be visually assaulted every time I visit the wrong profile, especially considering how pretty the rest of the site's layout is.
I'm an advocate of functional minimalism. If a feature has definite value and function while keeping it simple (Featured project, profile pictures, comments, love-its, studios, forums) it should be implemented and kept. I see no extra value or function from this suggestion that profile pictures and profile descriptions don't already serve.
