Why You SHOULD NOT Be Posting Long Lists of Block Suggestions

Side Note: Bumping this topic is OK! I'm ok if you bump it to signify people making Block Lists; I appreciate it! Bumps made within 12 hours since the last post are catogorized as spam, I have no tolerance for these posts.

Why You and I Should NEVER Suggest a Block List!

Ok, so this is a thing that occurs too much on the forums and really needs its own topic to recognize it. It's primarily bad because it causes way too much disorder and a lot of duplicates and such.

So, here is my mini guide on how to prevent yourself from making a block list!

Think About Them

Before suggesting your blocks, check and make sure it hasn't been rejected by the sticky! Also make sure a workaround hasn't been made here! Then think about if they truly benefit Scratch and if they should be added!

Sort Them

Once you've deducted the ones you don't need sort them into so that they each are on their own (great if you set it up on paper!) category/set.

Example:

My block list is: Say (), Say () for secs (), go to front

I would separate the two say blocks into their own suggestion where I explain their workings while I make a seperate topic for the other!

Final Resort

If you have a block list and you still can't sort it or deduct any of them and are too lazy to make seperate topics, please: DO NOT MAKE A BLOCK LIST. Instead wait for one or a set of them to be suggested or search for a topic that already has it. That way you can easily minimize your blocks!

alexphan wrote:

Also, how many blocks exactly is classified as a block list? There is a user (not giving out their username) that made several topics containing about 6 to 7 blocks of various categories. Are these considered block lists?
Hmm, it's not the blocks but rather how similar they are; if it's three-four blocks of very large difference that is good enough to be considered a block list. On the other hand if it was only about ten with great similarity in function then that wouldn't be a block list.

Hope this helps! Thanks for reading! Any questions just post below!

Really great mini topic! I have seen too many of the topics that suggest 3+ blocks that don't have any relation with each other.

Btw, I think that it's “you and I”, not “you and me”.

Yeah, I thought so originally but I formatted it in my head like: “I and you” instead… xD

We have too many stickies, we should probably combine some (too many stickies = more to read = less people will read them)

But I do think that this should be included in the stickies.

can't*

All posts can be necroposted, it just isn't allowed.

Probably better because this would only need to be referenced when someone makes a Block List, which was my original intention.

Can

It's allowed when the post is relevant to the topic, adds information, if the topic is a suggestion that has not been added yet, or if the topic is an ITopic.

There are also some eternally relevant topics, which you can necropost as long as your post is on topic. Example, and there are also some stickies like this one.

The stickies can have a link to this topic, and anyone who finds suggestions with more than 1 block, lead them here.

Why You SHOULD NOT Be Posting Long Lists of Block Suggestions

It annoys me when people make a generic “my suggestions” thread with unrelated blocks like this.

The entire reasoning to me making this!

It's weird too, it's not really notified anywhere yet the ST really discourage it.

Perhaps rename the thread to “Why You SHOULD NOT Be Posting Long Lists of Block Suggestions!” or something like that?

Why You SHOULD NOT Be Posting Long Lists of Block Suggestions

I have seen quite a few instances before where people have made many different topics for different blocks, as you have suggested, and the ST specifically asked them to combine them into one topic.

That's ironic…

As Pad2See has many times before closed topics with block lists asking them to make a separate topic for each.

I've seen many block lists over the days. I think this deserves a bump.
