Scratch Design Studio FAQ
Scratch Design Studio FAQ
Hello everybody! Scratch Design Studio curators here, and we are going to answer some frequently asked questions about the SDS. If you don't know what the SDS is, you can check out the wiki article here, and you can check out the entire list of previous SDS's here. Please also keep in mind that this topic will be updated frequently, so feel free to check back every once in a while.
Before I start this topic, I just want to let people know that the following questions will not be answered:
What is the next SDS going to be?
Who is the next curator going to be?
—————————————————————————————————————————————————————
Can I be a SDS curator? How do I become an SDS curator?
Unfortunately, curators are not chosen upon request for this studio, and only chosen people can curate. Check out this project to see how new SDS curators (the people who curate this and other studios like it) are selected: https://scratch-mit-edu.ezproxyberklee.flo.org/projects/55738732/ . Following that, and helping around the community will definitely put you on the right path to becoming a curator!
As ItchyCatIII mentioned, curators are not chosen by request. There is a formal vote among all SDS curators about who the next curator should be. I also think it's important to mention that you do not have to be an “SDS Helper” to become a curator. We look all around the community for new curators, and we choose strictly based on who is the most active, most friendly, and most mature.
—————————————————————————————————————————————————————
The current SDS curators are listed below.

Can you Feature my Projects?
The short answer is no. The Scratch Design Studio team cannot feature your projects. The long answer is that we can provide an opportunity for your project to reach the front page. The fourth row on the home page is known as the ‘Scratch Design Studio’ row, which randomly selects 20 projects from the current Scratch Design Studio to be front-paged, in the row upon page refresh.
In addition to this, it is possible for a project created for the SDS to be featured. But we can't feature it. It would have to go through the normal featuring process.

Feel free to ask a question below, and we will answer it for you!

Can I be SDS curator? How do I become an SDS curator?
Thanks for quoting me
! But, my username ends with three “i”s (it is supposed to be Roman numerals). The username you have leads to my tutorial account.

OK, so, the main thing is that it says, “Can you feature my project?” as a question that will not be answered, but it says that one is elaborated below. Featuring is a term that means putting a project on the first row of the front page… of course, only the ST can do that, so if that is the meaning of that question, and it is asked frequently enough, then I don't know why you can't just say that you can't feature projects, and that is the ST's job. I have a feeling I misinterpreted that, though
.
But, I've never heard of SDS curators “featuring” projects, or anything like that. The other questions either don't have a definite answer, are meant to be kept secret, or both. So, what exactly does that mean?
Edit: GreenIeaf curates the current SDS… is he/she still an SDS curator?
Thanks! And great idea making a FAQ, and a place to ask questions

2) Well, actually I have gotten quite a few requests from people to feature their project before. Then I've had to explain that I don't have the power to do that.
3) Nice catch!

Great! But on number two, why can that not be answered? If that is a frequently asked question, shouldn't it just say that SDS curators don't have the power to do that?

Very helpful FAQ! I've added it to the Helpful Topics topic
(which could really use some organization applied to that first post!)

Scratch Design Studio FAQ
Sorry for posting so much in this thread
.
Anyway, it says, “Can you feature my project?” in the questions that won't be answered. It does say that it is elaborated below… then (at least in my opinion) it appears that question is completely answered below. So, is that still supposed to be in the post as one of the questions that won't be answered?
