In The "For Parents" Section - Only Allow Your Child To Speak To Selected People, And Only They Can Speak To Your Child
I have a little kid that I babysit very often. I told her about Scratch, showed her my games on wolves (I've taught her that wolves are the best animals on the planet) and then she was bent on getting her own account. Now, even though she knows what my username is here on our little home of Scratch, she loves and favorites all of my projects, she still can't talk to me and I cant talk to her because, she's only a little girl and her parents turned off commenting. Now, this is where my idea would come in.
Yes, maybe people would limit themselves in going into the “For Parents” section and only allow certain people to talk to them, but that wouldn't necessarily be a bad thing. For example, what if there were to be a Scratch bully? Yes, you can report them and make studios so everyone can tell the bully to stop, but what if you could just straight up block him? Now, this doesn't mean that you won't be able to see their profile and such, but they just couldn't talk to you and you can't talk to them.
And, with my new idea,my kid that I babysit can talk to me freely and I can talk to her. I go over to her house often after Church because since she's getting older, she's becoming more mature, and I show her my games. But with this, I can just tell her about my new games. And, if she wants to use it as a Social Media (please don't play the “Scratch Isn't Social Media” card) she could just tell me when they're coming over, or if I wanted to go see a Sea Dogs game.I, personally, don't see any threat to Scratch limiting yourself.
Side note from another Scratcher, but doesn't need an entire topic on it: Share your opinions about if the parents should be able to turn off following for the child, as well.
Also, the girl that I speak of is the user Hattgirl. Check her out if you don't believe me. We were in the same room today, and we texted each other faces and different things, and she'd read them aloud. She'd read them aloud because she barely knows how to read and she's only 8. I also taught her (and am still teaching her) how to program. It's very difficult to teach her because she can barely read. Just for some backstory on her.

Erm, what if others want to become friends with the child?

[Sorry, moderators, I just want to mention I'm a child.]

In that case, you'd have to contact whoever you are able to talk to who is able to talk to the child. Also you may have to have a word with the child's parents, as the whole reason the child is only allowed to talk to a few select people, is to not let them go talking to random people. So, the child may only associate with people the child knows. Only allowed to associate with people that it can see, not someone from who knows where. Erm, what if others want to become friends with the child?
I'm not a parent, unless I'm married to Silver the Hedgehog.

I support some form of parental controls!
Another idea I had was little kids not be able to follow people.

No support. It's possible for the girl to talk on your profile, or open up commenting again. It's pretty easy.

With this, I'm pretty sure that the parents wouldn't just go and turn off commenting behind the girl's back, they'd tell her why they turned it off. And, she probably wouldn't even know how to do that, seeing as we're talking about a little girl. But yes, I can see where you're going with this. And, the girl's parents also would advise her not to talk to anyone else, so even if she had the ability to comment, she doesn't have the "right' for say. Also, I advise you to read the first post more carefully, as I said that the girl could only talk to certain people, no matter if the people had their commenting open or not. And only those people could talk to them. No support. It's possible for the girl to talk on your profile, or open up commenting again. It's pretty easy.

No! If this becomes a thing then my parents won't let me do anything!

Maybe its for the better. Do your parents know that you're already on Scratch? Because if they do and they only want you talking to certain people, then it might be for the better. No! If this becomes a thing then my parents won't let me do anything!

No support. Scratch is a safe community, so this would be never needed.

Bullying still happens, and people giving away their locations, real names, addresses, or any other personal information happens daily and parents have no clue. No support. Scratch is a safe community, so this would be never needed.
