Saturation Block
Support, this would fit right in with the other effects and could be pretty useful for making black-and-white sprites as it's often hard to guess which colour would be which.

Saturation Block
Support! It would help with the atmosphere of horror games and making black-and-white images in a newspaper

Support! Defiantly needed, so we don't have to recolor them with image editors!

Saturation Block
According to the Scratch Wiki, there used to be a “Saturation” block that could make sprites black and white. It was removed because it was glitchy and deemed unimportant. I agree with the second point; a graphic effect like this one wouldn't be practical:
No support.
Here's an alternative: a button in the costume editor called “Convert to grayscale”. When clicked, the editor converts the sprite's current costume to black and white, then adds the new grayscale costume to the sprite. It would be a quick alternative to using another software to make grayscale images.
Admittedly, this doesn't solve the problem “how to fade directly from color to grayscale (or grayscale to color)”. You'd probably have to just fake it with a ghost effect… but at least you'd have a grayscale image to work with.
set [saturation v] effect to ()Sprites that are fully black and white (saturation = 0) are definitely useful, since they could be used as newspaper images or in horror games. But a sprite with a saturation value in between, like 20 or 65, has fewer uses. (A color/grayscale filter for the whole project, or a clever, though imprecise, way to indicate health in a game, maybe?)
No support.

Support. It would be nice if there were more effects.

Interesting to know what you all think. I had heard that this effect was originally planned for Scratch, and now Scratch has improved, I thought it could be a topic worth revisiting.

Possibly a saturation effect so it is able to fade into B/W. Then brightness and darkness could be changed with the brightness block.
Support.

I'd have a use for this (Also thread title ‘black & white effect’ is misleading )

75%, just use the art editor if you want a greyscale game.

Saturation Block
Actually a slightly saturated sprite can be used in: But a sprite with a saturation value in between, like 20 or 65, has fewer uses.
1) an old TV
2) still more horror games
3) old color newspapers
4) faded photographs
5) and much more (Scratch is a big room where creativity determines how a block is to be used)
Anyways support if it doesn't require the Stage3D player

Saturation Block
Just make an all black sprite and set its transparency to 50% or such
semi support
Edit: make sure it covers all the sprites you want to be greyscaled

That would darken the sprite, not desaturate it. Just make an all black sprite and set its transparency to 50% or such
semi support
Edit: make sure it covers all the sprites you want to be greyscaled

Total support. This is a great idea. Along with this:
set [width v] effect to (0)
set [height v] effect to (0)

A saturation effect would gradually make the sprite grayer as it increased. A black-and-white effect would adjust the threshold between the tones. Either of these I support.

Seeing as Stage3D uses HSV color space
which means Hue Saturation Value
We might as well have a saturation block (and also have that Value replaced by Lightness)

No support.
Just go to “costumes” and use the paint bucket to paint it grey, black, and white. Use different shades for different parts, obviously. Not that hard.
Nah
It's just a badly worded OP is all, it's supposed to be saturation but instead it reads ‘Black and White effect’…
it would be better if I made another thread, probably
