Just wondering, though… does it actually matter about old alerts? Is there a problem with them being there?

I mean, I have a couple of alerts (*), but I basically ignore them (just like the cornucopia of studio requests). They don't actually do anything any more, just hanging around there, do they…?

Is it just a desire to feel like having a ‘clean’ alert status (or something) that's the motivation for this…?

(*) One was for a comment I made, which someone must have reported as sounding a bit mean - even though it was about my own project! :D And one was noting that both of my accounts had a project in the top-loved section at the same time, and I needed to pick just one of them to be there.

Some alerts may make it harder for you to do certain things, like become a Front Page Curator, Wiki Editor, SDS Curator, etc. Plus, removing an alert by showing that you learned from your mistake would also lower their chances of being banned as they have one less alert

But that's kinda what I'm asking… surely if an alert is old enough and/or ‘insignificant’ enough, then these things are likely to be taken into account anyway in such submissions, and potential bans?

I mean, those who decide such things surely have a reasonable degree of ability to work out how much previous alerts should be a consideration? (It doesn't all happen automatically, does it…?)

I guess my first alert does suggest it's quite possible those looking at such things might not always take the time (with already having so many things to do) to check everything carefully. But it still seems like it'll be far less onerous for the ST (and any others who decide such things) to only have to go back and recheck the cases where there's a suggestion of a potential mistake (and where it matters), rather than having multitudes of users asking all the time (or needing to be frequently checked) for their alerts to be rescinded…

Change of stance to around 30-50% support. I still love this idea, but the point of alerts is to LEARN from them, not just help someone and then not have to worry about them.

Also, this would make people think:

Hey! I can break the rules allllllllllllllllllllllllll I want! If I get an alert, I can just help someone and not worry about it!!!!

But I still like this idea so i will give some support.

I think of an alert as a warning not to do something again, not as a bad mark.
If we let alerts (or warnings) get deleted, people might do that again.

Ouch, I'd love to get rid of ALL my alerts, but I still don't find myself able to support this idea.
You get an alert, it's a lesson learned. It stays with you forever to remind you to follow the community guidelines and remember not to do the stuff you did to break them again.
Although, I think the alerts should “vanish” if you haven't had another alert for about a year or so and have been active through that time. Thanks for understanding.
And I'm very sure that this is duplicate.

What about programing some sort of robot that decides whether the alert should be deleted?

I wouldn't want the decision to be up to a robot to decide.

This is a good idea, actually. I support this!
I have this one alert from when I got angry at someone and argued back. (without swearing, just something disrespectful)
It's been bothering me for a year now.
I've learned from this mistake, and tried to not do this again.
But I don't need a constant reminder of my mistakes.
