These are the current hosts on the whitelist:

tinypic.com never using again
photobucket.com account required
cubeupload.com usual choice, but very popular recently, server down
imageshack.com account required
imageshack.us account required
modshare.futuresight.org not going to work
scratchr.org no
wikipedia.org no
wikimedia.org no
scratch-dach.info no
any .edu domain hard to come by

As you can see, cubeupload is the only option for us tinypic haters. My suggestion is we need new and/or more whitelists.

1. Bring back Imgur

2. Add other websites

3. Choices 1 & 2

4. Remove the whitelist altogether (probably not going to happen)

I think I have the solution!
tinypic!

or st can just whitelist someimage, which last time I checked was leagues ahead of cubeupload and tinypic.

I, quite honestly, find the “no image hosting sites that allow for inappropriate images” thing pretty stupid. Someone could write the weirdest, most inappropriate thing packed with swears here on the forums, so shouldn't we ban writing? Like, the report button is there for a reason. Most of the younger people who will be really sensitive to that kind of stuff won't be on the forums, anyways, and neither will the people who are actually ready to abuse it. Somebody could upload an unsuitable picture to their project, too. But do you ever see that happening? No! Most people wouldn't even have any idea it existed, the ST wouldn't have to announce it to the whole site all formally. They already have the only-Scratcher thing for images, don't they? If they really cared that bad about security, they could even make a new “Trusted User” system that the ST themselves sent out to people who apply for it, or something. Plus, what kind of moderating system do they even have on these other sites that instantaneously removes anything inappropriate?
A bit of a rant, sorry.

While I cannot confirm this, I saw that Imgur doesn't allow users hosting images on the Imgur server just to link to those pictures from another site. So basically anyone who uses Imgur as a hosting site can get their images removed and can get banned. So no support for Imgur.

You can't prevent everything that's inappropriate, but the Scratch Team has to take some measures to keep things safe. Imgur allows you to upload inappropriate images, the whitelisted sites don't, therefore on the whitelisted sites there's more of a chance of the images being removed and a potential crisis being averted! Younger users end up on the forums all the time, and there have been incidents of inappropriate pictures being posted on the forums before (that's actually the reason the whitelist system was implemented in the first place.) And as a matter of fact, I have seen inappropriate pictures in Scratch projects, and since that's hosted on the Scratch site already then the flagging system is the only measure you can really take.

just like some someimage images could be adult… just don't post the adult pics on Scratch!
don't say it's different
it's literally the same thing

and as I've said before,
nobody is going to be posting adult content on scratch just because they have access to a whitelisted image hoster that allows it.

You can host your images on Scratch, so really we should be using the Scratch API for hosting images.

Anyway, no support for imgur. I use it all the time when cube is down, but you can see adult content on the front page.

Indifferent in terms of imgur. As long as it links to the image proper and not to the website (so you can't view anything else except the image).

As for tinypic, NO! NEVER!

As for cubeupload, just get your site up.

As for a Scratch image hosting server, full support!

Actually, this is why the whitelist system was put in place. There were at least three different incidents I know of on the original forum of users abusing the ability to post an image from any site, and there could have been even more than that! Trolls who want to shock and disgust forumgoers are not averse to this.

I don't plan to post the adult pics to Scratch, but others might. And it is different, with TV you can use parental controls to block your kids from watching TV channels that might be inappropriate. Or you can just unsubscribe from those channels if you don't watch them. The restricted image hosts are similar to this- they block kids from visiting sites that might be inappropriate, and they prevent bad people from posting bad images in the forums.

And you're right, nobody is going to be posting adult content on Scratch “just because.” They do it because they find it fun, they like to ruin kids sites and get a laugh out of the reactions. Having a whitelisted image hoster that allows bad images will just make it easier for them to do just that. Is that what we want?

you're super overstating this.
just because someone can doesn't mean they will. and how many times have you actually seen this occur- or are you just saying that some people will do this because someone else has said it?

is a small MIT site really that popular- as opposed to club penguin or something- that someone will troll it?
And are they really that dumb to troll an MIT site- I mean it's freaking MIT. Wouldn't the person be a little scared MIT could trace back to them and call the police (yeah, it's probably a crime to expose children to this stuff- like giving drugs to kids).
