Deleting inactive accounts

If an account is inactive for lets say, 2 years (or any long period of time) the account should automatically be deleted. There are lots of accounts on Scratch which are made to do one thing and then left inactive for a few years and Scratch gets full of these pointless accounts. I'm not saying there is anything bad with making these accounts, people just don't delete them when they're finished with them.
Before deleting accounts the user should receive an e-mail maybe a month before ST delete the account so that the user has a chance to do something on the account to prevent it from being deleted.
EDIT: A lot of people don't see the point. The point is that when I looked at the statistics there were over 7,000,000 Scratchers but of course not all 7 million are active so the server gets cluttered with inactive accounts.

What would happen with Scratchers that've left but don't want to delete their projects? No support.

No support.

Say epninja hasn't gotten on Scratch (using his main account) for a couple years.

So is his account and all his wonderful projects deleted?

If someone is going to be inactive for a long time they should tell the Scratch Team or say on their profile. Also, it doesn't hurt to go on Scratch and love a project or follow someone to keep their account active.

No thanks.
I used to go on a website with a rule like this (except make it 6 months) but I never really logged on much as I got older for multiple reasons. But then one day, I wanted to go on and my account was deleted :-(

As Liam pointed out , the same thing could happen with a user with legitimate projects.

You've got to have a very specific filter (i.e, no projects no favorites no my stuff) if you really want to weed out accounts that were made to not be used.

Ok, I'll change it.

;-; I'm so worried about something like that happening to my account liam4 so at some point I'm going to write a script to automatically log me in twice a month, or something.

Agreed with only this part so support.

No support, first what if this is a student account, and the student uses teacher's email.
Next, what if griffpatch say has a big buisness trip. Will his projects get deleted?
Third, what if a scratcher left for a while (famous). Will they get deleted.
Lastly, there is no point. Someone tried to make an account named kaj, but it didn't allow.

Maybe instead of permanent delete, it disables the account and can be gotten back by typing in your password.
Though on the flip-side, this would be hard for the ST to implement.
Things a disabled account CANNOT do:
Share projects,
Love/favorite projects,
Follow someone,
Comment or post on the forums. Let me know if I missed something.
Maybe a pop-up could say something like, “I'm sorry, the user you are looking for has disabled his/her account, hopefully they will come back soon!”

Change in opinion.
Im only supporting scratcher1002s idea.
A popup should come up like this:
This account has been deactivated due to inactivity. Sorry!

What would be the point of that? All that would be happening is the user would be logged out. The next time the user logs in, their account returns to normal, so there's no effect on the user. The only effect would be an annoying pop up every time I visit that user's profile. So no support for that.

Exactly.

There's no point of it, other than to make things harder for Scratchers.

Plus, it would be a very small nuisance to half-hearted namesnipers.

No, you can still visit their projects, but it informs you in some way such as a popup, or a status somewhere on the page. And maybe shorten the list to just sharing projects.

But what would be the point of that? You could always look at the activity to determine if the Scratcher is active…

I know. But still- annoying popup. And you can't login without a password. So what is the point of limiting the account without a password if you can't even access the account in the first place? Technically, an account is already “disabled” until you enter a password because you can't even get onto the account without a password.

^^
Perhaps deleted accounts should just be allowed back into the name pool (with ST permission?)

1. If the student still uses the account at school then the teacher should tell the student. If it is the holidays then the teacher should either log onto the account and love a project or contact the ST.
2. He could contact the ST and what business trips last 2/3 years? Also, there should be a computer but if not as I said, he can contact the ST.
3. They would get an e-mail and could log onto Scratch and love a project.
4. I don't see the point you're trying to make.

For 4th, what would be the point of the feature? It wouldn't keep namesnipes out a lot…
