Bitmap and Vector can live in harmony.
See my intelligent rant here.
This is specifically directed at the Scratch Team. I'm going to start my thread only by asking questions. Why do you guys want to kill Bitmap? Is it because you hate pixels? Why can't there be an option? Why is it that you guys are forcing a Vector editor that is buggy when a Bitmap editor could be done more simply? Why is it that the backdrops and sprites tend to be bitmap, but you guys only have a Vector editor? Why can't you guys have both? Why? WHY?
Enough of that. What I am getting at is the fact that Scratch should have both types of editors, considering there are over 3,000,000 projects made in 1.4 that all use Bitmap. If we can't edit bitmaps, it will just be completely lame. Seriously, bring them back. I am considering leaving Scratch if there isn't a bitmap option available, considering how buggy and lower-graphical preformanced the new Vector stuff is. Seriously. Don't kill bitmap.
That's all.

See my intelligent rant here. They're not killing bitmap, the bitmap functions just haven't been added into the vector editor yet.

All that being said, since Scratch 2.0 was being completely rebuilt, it's not like bitmaps functions are easier to code than vector ones. Both take time to do and are not easy. Saying the editor is buggy doesn't really help us; describing the bugs and suggesting improvements on how to make the paint editor more intuitive and easier to use help us better, and it's best to learn about any bugs and helpful suggestions now while Scratch 2.0 is being developed.

Bitmap and Vector can live in harmony.

Look for an announcement (with mockups) later today, and a revised paint editor to try out several weeks from now.
