Suggestions about the forums

1. “Guides and Tutorials” forum
There are forums where you answer other people's questions. There are also specific ITopics. But I feel like there needs to be a forum specifically for guides and tutorials. I know you can do tutorial projects, but for scripting tutorials, the forums can be better because you have the scratchblocks tag and stuff.
Edit: Duplicate?
Edit-2: Maybe the ST should give permission to use the forum so we don't end up with tutorials from new scratchers like
Use
when this sprite clicked
to make the blocks work when a sprite is clicked! Easy!

2. “Things I'm Working On in Scratch” forum
There is a Show and Tell forum where you can advertise your projects that are already shared, and a Things I'm Making and Creating forum for things you are making outside of Scratch. I think there might be something missing. We need a forum for things you are still making inside Scratch.

3. Replace “Other Languages” forum
The “Other Languages” forum is for non-English languages that we don't already have a forum for. It gets misused a lot. I feel like a good amount of the threads in that forum are made-up/pretend/joke languages. I think we should get rid of that forum and instead have a “Request new language forum” link where you could request for the ST to add a whole new forum for your language. I know this might be hard for the ST, and it would be harder for the people that do speak other real languages, but on the other hand, it would prevent a LOT of spam.

4. Referring to quoted posts easier
Sometimes you see a post quoting another post (or a portion of another post) and you can't find the original post that is quoted here. This could happen often in a forum thread with a lot of posts, like a sticky topic. Maybe when you click the “Quote” button, in your quote it would say “in post” with a link to the quoted post. I will show an example below quoting this. Edit: Zro716 thinks the following form would be good:

I agree with this idea, except I don't know if it would be difficult to have a tag that displays a username without having it in the code.

Edit: Another suggestion about quotes. Maybe you should get a notification when you get quoted in the forums.

1. Technically, I think you can post that stuff in Questions About Scratch and/or Help With Scripts
2. Project Ideas is what you'd use, or even Show and Tell would work
3. No support, it's fine how it is, and they're really useful to those who don't speak English
4. But how would this work? Could you give more detail?
EDIT: Nevermind, I see. But why is it needed?
EDIT EDIT: And what if I were to change the quote like this:

Still, to sort it, we should have a separate forum.

Are you sure? I think Project Ideas is just for getting ideas.

rollercoasterfan wrote:

That's true, but I feel like the real language threads are all buried under joke language threads.

rollercoasterfan wrote:

4. But how would this work? Could you give more detail?
See my example in post 2.

If you just do portions, it's hard to tell which post it is from.

No support for 1 because “help with scripts” does this well.

I'm unsure for all the others.

Suggestions about the forums

1) There's already “Help with Scripts” forum, many tutorials can be found there. No support
2) A lot of people wouldn't use it very much, as it's not really worth discussing. You can use the “What I'm working on” section of your profile. No support
3) Hmm… I haven't been seeing the “Other Languages” forum lately, so I don't know. None
4) That might be helpful, but I don't see why the forums should need it if you only wanted to quote an important part of a post. Semi-Support

No support, use other forums for that.

2. “Things I'm Working On in Scratch” forum
There is a Show and Tell forum where you can advertise your projects that are already shared, and a Things I'm Making and Creating forum for things you are making outside of Scratch. I think there might be something missing. We need a forum for things you are still making inside Scratch.
Correct me if I'm wrong, but Show & Tell can also be used for that and if it's with multiple people, collaboration. No support unless somebody corrects me with the Show & Tell thing.

Semi support. What I think is that it should be like the announcements forum, you click a link (like what you suggested) and then the ST approves it and makes a new topic for the speakers to post on. If more people post on it, a new forums (made by the ST of course) will be implemented, like current systems.
Support so it's not confusing.
What I think in italics.

Suggestions about the forums

1) 25% support, those topics can easily fit in Help With Scripts.
2)Support, I can see this being very useful. It would separate the unfinished and finished projects from one-another which would stop confusion or disappointment when a project is not actually done. It would allow people to see what others are working on and follow the forum for updates. It could also help people build up “hype” for the game as the current methods of doing so aren't very effective.
3) Support, this seems like a better system.
4) SUPPORT! This would make it less confusing.

Suggestions about the forums

1. Just use questions about scratch. No support.
2. Show an tell is for telling people about projects/studios. Not just ads. No support.
3. No support. It does get misused, but so does every other forum.
4. No support. This would be difficult. What if you changed the post a bit? Then where would it link?
