Part of our 6th grade computer course revolves around computer programming. In this portion of the course, students will be introduced to computer programming and block coding. Outside of learning the basic skills, an emphasis will be placed on problem solving, collaboration, and creativity. Student Centered Learning A special aspect of our course is that we try to be flexible and allow students to take charge of their learning. Many aspects of the course revolve around students being able to select project themes based on their interests. In order to promote creativity, collaboration, communication, and critical thinking, students are often paired up with a teammate to help in the learning process. Successful students are self motivated and able to work within a team. That being said, we realize not all students can be successful with this type of freedom. In this case, alternate, individual activities are available for students who thrive in a more structured atmosphere. With either option, successful students are self motivated, flexible, creative, and hard working.
